Murtas looks out over the Mediterranean from the Sierra de la Contraviesa. Waymarked trails through vineyards and ravines, El Cerrajón, the caves, a pine wood with picnic areas, wine tastings at Bodega 4 Vientos (4 km away) and the Alpujarra cuisine of its restaurants. In under half an hour you can reach iconic white villages such as Trevélez or Yegen, and in about 35 minutes by car, the beaches of the Costa Tropical.
Murtas keeps the tradition of the trovo alive: improvised folk poetry sung in quintillas (five-line verses) that still brings troubadours together at festivals and evening gatherings. The Casa Museo del Trovo y Aguardiente pays tribute to this culture: each bedroom carries a trovador’s name forged in iron above the door and keeps, framed inside, a trovo that troubadour wrote.
Murtas is just over an hour and a half from the city of Granada and from Almería airport, and around 30 minutes from the Mediterranean motorway (A-7) via the Albuñol exit. We recommend arriving by car so you can move freely around La Alpujarra and head down to the coast.
